OUTSIDE

When you stay at the Manor, you have over 2 acres of private gardens right outside your front door as well as access to the whole of the secluded estate - just under 7 acres - including the Walled Garden and our newly planted orchard and woodland.

The framework of the garden was laid down over 200 years ago so you can see magnificent mature trees like the sweet chestnut and the walnut trees in all their glory as well as yew hedges that have taken centuries to establish. This horticultural legacy has been enhanced by herbaceous borders, fragrant roses and a multitude of bulbs to give colour and interest.

One opening in the topiarised yew hedge takes you to the small meadow that is kept very natural to encourage wild flowers and pollinators.

Here, in spring, you will see a wonderful display of cowslips, fritillaries, primroses and violets. When the summer comes, Tina, the gardener, mows paths through the long grass so that you can explore further into the little copse beyond.

The other side leads you to the lawn outside the kitchen and beyond to the ponds.

The garden of the Manor House is arranged in a series of rooms, each with a different feel and used for a different purpose.

In front of the house, is the formal garden - a lawn edged with sweet smelling roses and lavender, bordered by topiarised yew hedges and bounded by a wall.

This is generous flat space where you can play garden games - croquet or boules - or have cocktails in the evening.

There are walkways in the hedges leading you through to other areas.

If you are a nature lover, the gardens and grounds of Barton Court will delight you. Butterflies, bees and birds abound because their natural habitat has been respected.

There are sets of binoculars left in the house so that you can spot the birds that swoop and circle overhead. One lucky guest counted 14 red kites - a sight that is very rare.

You will probably see a friendly robin outside the kitchen door and possibly bump into a semi-tame pheasant or two, escaping from the shoot. If you find a seat somewhere and listen to the birdsong and the sounds of nature, you will relax immediately.

Outside the breakfast room is the most convenient spot for you to BBQ and gather for alfresco meals. It is really convenient for popping in and out of the kitchen to get cold drinks and supplies from the kitchen.

Eating here is a delight because you look down the garden, across the ponds to the Malvern Hills in the distance.
