CREATIVE WORKSHOPS AT BARTON COURT
A private country estate for focused creative work, conversation and collaboration.
THE VIEW FROM THE MASTER BEDROOM
An inspirational environment for creative work
Barton Court offers a quiet, private setting for creative workshops that need time, space and thoughtful hosting, rather than a formal venue atmosphere.
It suits groups who want to work together with focus and intention — writers, artists, designers, photographers and cultural organisations — in a place free from distraction or pressure to perform.
Writers’ workshops and literary residencies
Artists’, makers’ and designers’ workshops
Photography and film development sessions
Editorial, research or curatorial groups
Small cultural or educational organisations
Creative workshops at Barton Court work particularly well for:
Groups are typically small to medium in size, allowing for focus, conversation and shared purpose.
Spaces that support the creative process
Barton Court’s spaces are elegant, flexible and naturally conducive to creative work. In addition to the rooms of the main house, the estate includes two dedicated studio buildings — the Saw Mill and a larger adjacent studio, The Dutch Barn — both widely used for workshops, classes and group sessions from cookery, floristry, drama and Pilates.
The studios are warm, quiet and comfortable in all seasons, with underfloor heating and simple, adaptable layouts. There are no fixed classrooms or formal studio set-ups; instead, spaces respond to the needs of the group, allowing creative work to unfold organically through:
Group discussion and critique
Movement-based or seated studio sessions
Individual thinking and making
Breakout conversations
Shared meals and informal evenings
Outdoor walks and reflection
Studios and house-based spaces can be used independently or together, depending on the rhythm and structure of the workshop. They open directly onto seven acres of private grounds, offering uninterrupted views and the bonus of being able to step outside, walk, think and return to the work with fresh perspective.
Food and nourishment
The setting nourishes the mind while we nourish the body. Food at Barton Court supports and enhances the rhythm of creative work rather than interrupting it.
We work with trusted local caterers and private chefs to provide simple, high-quality meals, shaped around the needs and pace of the workshop.
Days are unhurried, with space for conversation, rest and continuation beyond the formal sessions.
