The Clock Tower
This bijou little brick and stone 18th century cottage, part of the estate of Barton Court on the edge of the village of Colwall between Ledbury and Malvern, was once the home of the head gardener, his two favourite dogs and his ferrets.
One of his duties was to keep the clock wound and accurate so every week he would climb the ladder in the bedroom up to the housing and wind the mechanism that keeps it working. It is still accurate now and chimes every quarter but we use it rarely because the ticking is so loud it would wake our guests!
An additional tasks was to ensure that the foxhounds were kept clean after their muddy excursions across the fields. To help with that, a hound wash was created as part of the building and can still be seen built into the foundations and underneath the bespoke ferret cages today.

AT A GLANCE
The Sitting Room
As you step straight into the cosy sitting room from the rose covered porch, you feel an immediate sense of relaxation.
This is a room that invites you to rest and put your feet up.
Two linen covered sofas face each other conversationally across an antique French coffee table, while under the stairs is a reading nook where you can stretch out to read or watch internet TV.
There is even a table where you can eat together or work - if you really have to.
The Kitchen
You may not want to cook while you are on holiday. Or, if you do, you want it to be as quick and painless as possible.
Alternatively, you may find cooking therapeutic so that an essential part of your break away is spending time in the kitchen.
Either way, the galley kitchen in the Clock Tower has everything you need from an air fryer to a microwave, a full oven to a dishwasher. It may look vintage with its maple worktops and butler’s sink but it is fully functional.
The Bedroom
Getting a good night’s sleep is an essential part of any break away.
The antique sleigh bed in the Clock Tower has a comfortable modern mattress and topper for you to sink into after a day of exploration.
The bedroom has an ensuite toilet with a basin so there is no need to go downstairs once you have retired for the night.
Outside
As well as a paved garden, filled with aromats, just outside the kitchen door, there is also a decked area beyond where you can sit and gaze at the Malvern Hills.
